Texas Law Help (.org) is THE website for do-it-yourself divorce and custody cases. It is maintained by the Texas Legal Services Center, a non-profit dedicated to expanding the availability of legal resources to low-income Texans. They offer FREE forms for filing divorces, custody cases, and protective orders, along with well detailed instructions for each step.

Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas

Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas helps low-income clients access the civil justice system by providing volunteer attorneys who donate free legal advice and representation, and by supporting and training those attorneys. Last year, VLS volunteer attorneys and staff provided nearly 5,000 clients with over 17,250 hours of free legal services.

Travis County Courthouse

The Travis County Courthouse is on Guadalupe St. between 10th st. and 11th st.

Note that there is NO DEDICATED PARKING for the courthouse—there are only meter spots along the streets and a few close-by daily fee garages.

Protective Orders

You should not delay if you are considering a protective order since a long delay between an incident of violence and the protective order application may hurt the chances of it being granted by the court.
